Does your average bed rail not work with a convertible crib?

I have one of those convertible cribs that are supposed to transition into a toddler bed, and later a full bed headboard. I see these "convertible crib rails" for like 3 times the price as a regular bed rail you'd buy at Wal-Mart. What's the advantage? Can I not just get the standard cheaper white ones?

What you need is a set of steel side rails that hook in. The rails are typically 77 inches or so long leaving approx. one inch on each end in order to slip your hand down between the mattress and the bed. Here is a link to what it should look like. http://www.glideaway.com/index.php/produ… Not very costly well under 50.00 dollars most anywhere.
