How do I decorate around a huge canopy bed that I can't get rid of?

We bought this huge king size canopy bed (very expensive) a few years ago on a whim and now I think it overwhelms my bedroom. Any suggestions on what to do with this bed or how to decorate around it to make the room seem cozier? I love the color of my bedroom, but now regret this bed purchase. My husband refuses to get anything else. Help!

The entire purpose of a canopy bed is to make the bed the only theme in the bedroom. Overwhelm it. Which apparently it done. Smaller pieces of furniture is needed, not larger. Most people make the mistake in thinking "since the bed is big everything else needs to be big as well". The problem with this thinking is that most people do not live in castles with bedrooms as large as most peoples houses. The way to make the room look good again is by having smaller pieces of furniture. Such as tall skinny dressers. A slim looking glass instead of a bulky dresser with an attached mirror. A small Elegant chair with maybe a small make-up stand near by. But a must for the bedroom to work is to let the bed remain the central point. Your eye must catch the bed at first glance as if there is nothing else in the room. The way of achieving this is by keeping your other furniture slim. Nothing should be taller than the bed either. Like if you put a Grandfather clock in the room, it would be more of a Grandmother clock, more slender and shorter.

Hope this helps
